National Postdoc Appreciation Week 2026
It's Time to Celebrate Our AMAZING Postdocs!!
Join us for this year's UK #NPAW2026 - Monday 21 September - Friday 25 September 2026
(NPAW) is a celebration of the fantastic contribution postdocs and researchers make towards research and academic life in general. It's a special time to showcase, recognise, and celebrate their efforts, and thank them for all they do and we look forward to celebrating with UoE!
National Event -
Monday 21 September 2026 (10 am - 12 noon) ONLINE - 'The Changing Landscape of Postdoc Careers'
This national event will be open to all researchers from all institutions in UK and Republic of Ireland.
Postdocs are facing an ever-changing landscape in terms of personal and career prospects, as well as a changing landscape to academic funding. Being prepared is key, so join this event where we will start with exploring your academic journey through creative language play, followed by a workshop on uncovering your existing skills (hint: it's not just research!) and how to explore your next steps using this information. We will then wrap up with a discussion panel with funders UKRI and British Academy, who will provide candid insights to the changing landscape of academic funding.

Tuesday 22 September 2026 (11 am - 12.30 pm) ONLINE - 'How to Manage Your Career'
Join us for this practical and interactive career management course which is relevant both to those pursuing research careers and those exploring opportunities beyond academia. Through discussions and individual exercises, participants will explore career values, motivations, skills and strengths, career options, job search strategies and available support resources.

Tuesday 22 September 2026 (1.30 pm - 3 pm) ONLINE - 'Discover Your Leadership Voice'
Discovering Your Leadership Voice is an interactive workshop, designed to enhance self-awareness, communication, and team effectiveness. Participants explore their unique voice profile, understand the strengths and challenges of different communication styles, and develop stronger relationships. The session will help build inclusive, collaborative team cultures, improving wellbeing, empathy, belonging, leadership effectiveness, and overall workplace performance.
Wednesday 23 September 2026 (10.30 am - 12 noon) ONLINE - 'Visual Literacy – How to Read and Construct Images'
We carry cameras with us everywhere, and nearly 5 billion photos are taken daily. But how many of those photos are well constructed and tell a great story? Visual literacy is a skill that helps us to not only interpret imagery in our everyday environment, but to help us build our own images and effectively communicate ideas and narratives to others. This session will introduce you to the basics of how images are structured, drawing on historical artworks and contemporary advertising, and then offer practical guidance on strengthening the communication impact of your own images.

Thursday 24 September 2026 (11 am - 12 noon) ONLINE - 'Championing The Researcher Concordat - a contract to support your career development'
The is an important tool in the armoury of researchers: it sets commitments to your career development in stone. The 天美传媒 is signatory to the Concordat to Support the Career Development of Researchers, and at this session you will be joined by Prof Angus Buckling, Dr Chris Wood and Dr Peter O'Rourke, who will champion how the Concordat can provide researchers with leverage and direction.

Thursday 24 September 2026 (2 pm- 3.30 pm) ONLINE - 'Careers Beyond Academia - Alumni Panel Session'
Join this Panel session and hear from 天美传媒 Alumni who have gone on to use their research skills and backgrounds in Higher Education Institutes and beyond into diverse sectors. Chaired by Dr Peter O’Rourke.
We are looking forward to welcoming:

- Dr Jane May Morrison
Each panellist will give a brief overview of their career steps after completing their research degrees at 天美传媒, and reflect on how their research backgrounds and skills have led to their current positions.
